Vocal cord nodules, polyps and cysts are common benign (non-cancerous) growths affecting the vocal cords. They usually develop due to excessive voice use, vocal strain, smoking, acid reflux or chronic irritation of the vocal cords. These conditions commonly cause persistent hoarseness, vocal fatigue and difficulty projecting the voice.
